Experience and Qualifications
In 2005 I earned a bachelor of journalism honours degree from the University of King’s College and have since gained experience in editorial, production and management of several established magazines as well as roles in communications, marketing, event coordination, and administration.
My education, as well as the varying work environments of my employment positions, has provided me with excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills. I am experienced in overseeing contract and freelance contributors.
My computer literacy includes Windows XP, Mac OS X, QuarkXPress, Adobe CS5 and Expression Engine CMS, database and information management.
In my most recent position as Managing Editor for Atlantic Books Today and Projects Manager at the Atlantic Publishers Marketing Association, my responsibilities included editing, pagination, proofreading, production, marketing, promotional, administrative and managerial duties. I most certainly have learned to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
I work well in a team atmosphere and am also able to work independently of supervision and have learned to prioritize tasks in a very busy office.
Prior to this position, I worked as associate editor with Lifestyle Maritimes magazine (previously Lifestyle Nova Scotia) where I was integral to the expansion from a regional production to publications launched in several provinces across Canada. I have also gained international work experience by completing an internship at Company Magazine, a lifestyle publication based in London, England.
My job history, my studies, as well as various volunteer work and extra-curricular activities have allowed me to develop leadership skills and a chance to work professionally with the public in various situations.
